Midtown Oakville
Midtown is the largest single change proposed for Oakville in a generation — a high-density district planned around the Oakville GO station. Most residents have never been shown, in plain language, how big it is, who approves it, or what happens to the roads, schools and servicing around it. This page is where we keep track.
What Midtown is
Midtown Oakville is the area around the Oakville GO station, roughly between the QEW, Trafalgar Road, Cornwall Road and Chartwell Road. Provincial policy designates it a Major Transit Station Area, which means the Town is required to plan for substantial density there — but the Town still decides the detail: heights, block layout, parks, roads and what the public gets in return.
In practice that has meant a stream of tall-building applications, appeals to the Ontario Land Tribunal, and a growing gap between what residents were told Midtown would feel like and what is actually being approved.
Our position is not "no growth." It is that growth of this scale has to arrive with the water pipes, roads, transit service, schools and parks that make it liveable — and that residents deserve to see the numbers before the towers, not after.
Questions we are asking
- What total population and unit count is Midtown actually planned for, and over how many years?
- Is there confirmed water, wastewater and stormwater capacity for the approved and proposed towers?
- Which roads and intersections will absorb Midtown traffic, and what is the plan for Trafalgar, Cornwall and the QEW ramps?
- Where are the schools, parks, community space and health services for tens of thousands of new residents?
- What is the Town's position when applications go to the Ontario Land Tribunal, and what has that cost residents so far?
- How much community benefit and parkland is being secured in exchange for added height?
